NASCAR Winston Cup fans had plenty to reasons to
look forward to the 1992 season as Dale Earnhardt and car woner Richard Childress began
making preparations to defend their second-straight NASCAR Winston Cup championship.
The defending champion had the most disappointing season: He struggled throughout
the year. Dale won just once in the Goodwrench Chevrolets and had only six top-five
finishes all year. He eventually finished 12th in the standings, sandwiched between
Irvan and Rusty Wallace. It was not a typical performance from the black-clad crew,
and everyone expected the team to return with a vengeance the following season. They
would not be disappointed.
