Summary:
Earnhardt finishes 19th in Martinsville Apr. 18
Dale Earnhardt's poor qualifying position put him in heavy
traffic that he could not overcome in the Goody's Body Pain 500 in Martinsville.
Earnhardt started 39th and advanced to 27th position by lap 50. By lap 100, Dale was
up to 19th spot. Unfortunately, Dale couldn't hold off race-leader Rusty Wallace and
was lapped on lap 163 of 500. He missed a few close accidents, but being lapped put
a halt to Dale's move to the front. He was later put a second lap down by Jeff
Burton. Dale will have to get 'em next week in Talladega ... he could only manage
second-rate 19th-place finish on this day.
Earnhardt is 5th in
Martinsville practice! Apr. 17
After a disappointing qualifying run, Earnhardt looks to have
found some speed at Martinsville. In Saturday's practice, Earnhardt posted the 5th
fastest speed of the session. In Friday's practice before qualifying, Earnhardt
posted the only the 39th quickest lap. Earnhardt will start the race from 39th
position. He qualified 43rd on Friday but improved to 39th on Saturday.
Fortunately he will not have to pit on the backstretch, as it has been eliminated since
the last race at Martinsville. The race is on Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be televised
by ESPN.
