Earnhardt finishes 12th in Charlotte Oct. 11
Dale Earnhardt finished 12th in the UAW-GM Quality 500 at
Charlotte. The race was originally scheduled to run on Sunday, but rain forced NASCAR to
postpone the event until Monday. In final Winston Cup practice on Saturday, Earnhardt was
pleased with the way his car was running. But during the race, the car didn't feel so
good.
Earnhardt started 17th. He ran between 10th and 15th for most of the race, fighting a
tight-handling car. Dale finished the day in 12th, two laps down.
"Ray must have forgot his notebook," said Earnhardt. "That 24 team really
looked good today. We were terrible. We were too tight most of the day. I wish we could
have done some changing. We just missed it. It wasn't our day."

Earnhardt qualified 17th for Sunday's UAW-GM 500 in Charlotte.
"We did better than practiced, but I was about a tenth
slower than I should have been," said Earnhardt. "I'm afraid everybody is going
to pick up. This is the same car we had here in May. It really felt good here in May. I'm
surprised we ended up 17th fastest tonight. I thought we would end up about 36th."
