Summary:
Earnhardt finishes 8th_3/5
The CarsDirect.com 400 at Las Vegas ended
early on Sunday because of rain. There was a 20-minute delay early in the race, then
heavier showers moved in just past the halfway point. Dale Earnhardt was in 8th place when
the race was cut short. He maintained 7th position in the points.
Earnhardt involved in incident in practice_3/4
During practice on Saturday, Dale
Earnhardt was involved in an on-track incident with Jeff Gordon. Earnhardt's car was only
slightly damaged.
"He just got into me and got in the wall," said Earnhardt. "He got into me.
I didn't get into him. It knocked the nose in on our car, but we'll be OK. We've got to
come from a long way back to win Sunday, but I think the car will be good enough to win.
We'll tune on it some more this afternoon and get it as ready as we can to go 400 miles
faster than anyone else on Sunday."
Earnhardt qualifies 33rd_3/3
Dale Earnhardt qualified 33rd on Friday in qualifying at Las Vegas.
"I was off a little bit in one and two," said Earnhardt. "I should have got
back in the throttle a lot sooner, but I hesitated. Three and four was off about a tenth,
too, but I know I was off in one and two. I know the car will run faster than that. I wish
we could have qualified 15th or so. The car is capable of doing that. I think we've got a
good race car. I think we can race 'em and be competitive. I don't want to qualify that
bad. I want to qualify better."
