Pitting late is what did it. They never should have pitted so late, they need to manage their fuel better earlier in the race so they can plan on staying out when others pit. He lost the lead then and he knew he was going to get in an accident being in the middle. With the new chase rules it is STUPID to stick your nose in late and try to gain 5-6 positions at best.
He played it smart. He didn't bend up the car and he didn't get in an accident. Let's not forget he is highly susceptible to getting concussions now. He hit the wall hard at Texas a couple weeks ago. Why risk tearing up a great car and possibly getting a severe concussion or worse?
The rules suck on the plate tracks. They need to lower the engine size to 280 or 265 and take the plates off. Also let them run whatever they want under the cars. Running 3 wide nobody can go anywhere, it's a joke...
